Rebroadcast from January 21st, 2010. One year later as the reality of the earthquake in Haiti is still an everyday presence in the lives of the Haitian people, we revisit our discussion about how hard it is just to watch. Scholars and teachers of witnessing join us to talk us through the practice of witnessing, pointing out both the pitfalls and the positive outcomes that can come through witnessing the suffering of others, even from afar.
Guest
- Kaethe Weingarten, Associate Clinical Professor of Psychology at Harvard Medical School, founder and director of the Witnessing Project
- Carrie Rentschler, Assistant Professor of Communication at McGill University
