A Message from the Director
Wisconsin Public Radio is a content-driven
organization, and our task will be to find new ways to get our
programming to you … when and where you want it. As the
second-largest public radio network in the country, we have a strong
tradition of producing high-quality cultural and informational
programming that cannot be found anywhere else.
Our mission is to realize the Wisconsin Idea by
producing programming that extends the boundaries of the University to
the state and beyond. Thanks to strong support from the
University, the State, listeners, and businesses in Wisconsin, we have
developed the infrastructure to accomplish our mission. And
despite the continuing trend towards media consolidation in commercial
broadcasting, public radio will always be owned and operated by and for
the people of Wisconsin.
My task will be to adapt our infrastructure to be
competitive in a digital world. We have already begun this
process by obtaining funds to start converting our 27 transmitters from
analog to digital broadcasting. Several of our national programs
can already be heard on satellite radio. We will continue to
explore new ways to make our programming available to you, and to
strengthen our presence as a cultural and informational resource for
Wisconsin.
I look forward to working with you.
