Hunters could ditch their blaze orange clothing for bright pink gear under a bill that passed the state Assembly Tuesday night.

While some backers say the plan could encourage more women to take up hunting, Rep. Joel Kleefisch, R-Oconomowoc, said it’s really about giving hunters more options.

“We are under no illusions that by adding a color, we’re going to draw a whole bunch of people to hunting,” he said. “However, as a state that has a constitutional commitment to sportsmen’s rights, we believe that giving our hunters options is a great thing.”

The bill heads next to the Senate. If it becomes law, Wisconsin could be the first state to allow fluorescent pink hunting gear.
