Attorney General Candidate Susan Happ’s Primary Opponents Endorse Her In General Election

Jon Richards, Ismael Ozanne Say Happ Will Bring Integrity To Office

By

The two Democrats who lost to Susan Happ in a primary election for Wisconsin attorney general have both endorsed her in the general election.

State Rep. Jon Richards and Dane County District Attorney Ismael Ozanne joined Jefferson County District Attorney Susan Happ at a Milwaukee news conference on Friday morning. Richards said Happ would bring more guts and independence to the Department of Justice than Republican candidate Waukesha County District Attorney Brad Schimel would.

He brought up Schimel’s agreement to not prosecute former Republican Assembly Majority Leader Scott Jensen on corruption charges as part of a plea deal in 2010. He said Schimel had given Jensen a “get out of jail free card.”

Ozanne said Happ would be both tough and smart on crime.

“We also have to have an attorney general willing to do more — willing to make sure we stop the war on women, making sure that we stop voter suppression, making sure that we protect our environment,” said Ozanne.

Schimel’s campaign responded on Friday by saying Happ has prosecuted only seven cases in Jefferson County, compared to Schimel’s 25 years of experience and more than 150 jury trials. He also said that Democrats intend to politicize the DOJ.
