SEGMENT 1:
Azar Nafisi taught English at the University
of Tehran until she was expelled for refusing to wear a veil.
She tells Steve Paulson about her weekly secret meetings with
students to read forbidden Western literature. She also tells
her story in a memoir called "Reading Lolita in Tehran."
Also, Geraldine Hughes wrote and stars in the one-woman
play "Belfast Blues." It's based on her childhood in
Troubles-plagued Belfast. Hughes talks with Anne Strainchamps
and performs excerpts from the play.
SEGMENT 2:
Betsy Israel is the author of "Bachelor
Girl: The Secret History of Single Women in the Twentieth Century."
She tells Jim Fleming our society has always been suspicious of
unmarried women and talks about examples from Louisa May Alcott
to Ally McBeal.
SEGMENT 3:
Guitarist Sharon Isbin talks with Steve Paulson
about how she came to the guitar as a child, why women have a
harder time than men being accepted as guitarists, and shares
some personal background about Rodrigo's "Concierto de Aranjuez."
