AFTERMATH
To The Best of Our Knowledge
from Wisconsin Public Radio
To Daniels Libeskind buildings are much more than
concrete boxes. They're expressions of hope, joy, freedom, and memory.
In this hour of To the Best of Our Knowledge, architect Daniel
Libeskind talks about his master design for the World Trade Center
site.
SEGMENT 1:
Daniel Libeskind is the architect whose design was
chosen to the master-plan for the new World Trade Center site.
He tells Steve Paulson why he was influenced by the Statue of
Liberty and that architecture must be an affirmation. His book
is "Breaking Ground." Also, David Wyatt has written
a 9-11 memoir called "And the War Came." He reads selections
and talks with Anne Strainchamps about the effects of 9-ll on
his family.
SEGMENT 2:
Yale Strom is a klezmer musician and directed the
documentary film "Klezmer on Fish Street." He talks
with Steve Paulson about the klezmer revival, particularly in
Poland, and what it means when this culture is re-created by non-Jews.
And he plays examples of klezmer music on his violin.
SEGMENT 3:
Simon Montefiore is the author of "Stalin:
The Court of the Red Tsar." He tells Jim Fleming that his
biography uses a lot of biographical and archival material previously
unavailable to researchers to give a more complete portrait of
Stalin and his circle. He says Stalin was more complex than we
thought, but still a monster.
