The Wisconsin Union Theater has a long history of presenting some of the greatest jazz artists in the world. Next up on that list is The Bad Plus Joshua Redman on Saturday, October 17, 2015 at 8 p.m. in Shannon Hall. Tickets are available at the box office in the Wisconsin Union Theater, by calling 608-265-ARTS and online here. Tickets are $38.50, $34.50 and $27.50 for the general public, $34.50, $30.50 and $27.50 for Wisconsin Union Members and Non UW-Madison Students, $10 for UW-Madison Students (with ID), and $36.50, $32.50 and $27.50 for UW-Madison Faculty/Staff.
The Bad Plus is a trio of creative jazz musicians who have been playing together for over 15 years. The group is based out of New York City and is made of bassist Reid Anderson, pianist Ethan Iverson and drummer David King. The Bad Plus is not a typical jazz trio by any means. They are known for their creative take on jazz, keeping their sound unique by exploring music that builds on the traditional form. They combine elements of jazz with other genres, including rock and pop, and have recorded their own versions of popular songs by artists like Blondie, David Bowie, Nirvana and Queen. Thus far, they have recorded 11 studio albums and two live albums.

In 2011, The Bad Plus invited saxophonist Joshua Redman to join them for a week of performances at the Blue Note in New York City. Following the success of these shows, he was then invited into the studio to record the newest album, titled “The Bad Plus Joshua Redman.”
Redman, son of famed jazz saxophonist Dewey Redman, graduated from Harvard University with a degree in Social Studies and a letter of acceptance to Yale Law School. After deciding to defer his attendance for a year, he relocated to Brooklyn and found himself immersed in the jazz scene. Playing the saxophone in high school in the award-winning Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble, Redman picked up his instrument once again and the rest is history. He has won the Thelonious Monk International Jazz Saxophone Competition and was nominated for a Grammy, among other awards.
