Cruz Rallies Support In Final Push Ahead Of Tuesday’s Primary

Republican presidential hopeful Ted Cruz spent Sunday campaigning in the Green Bay area ahead of Wisconsin’s primary vote on Tuesday, telling supporters he’s the only remaining candidate who can keep rival Donald Trump out of the general election.

With only hours remaining before polls open, Cruz and the other presidential contenders have been traveling throughout Wisconsin this weekend to build up last-minute support.

One of Cruz’s former opponents, Gov. Scott Walker, was there to introduce him on Sunday. Walker was once seen as a leading contender for the nomination, but dropped out of the race in September. He told a crowd that the entire presidential election could hinge on Tuesday’s outcome.

“We’re here because Tuesday is going to be a turning point in this election,” Walker said.

The latest Marquette University Law School poll had Cruz ahead of Trump among likely Republican voters in the state with 40 percent of the vote. Trump came in at 30 percent and Ohio Gov. John Kasich at 21 percent.

Cruz said he’s the only Republican out of an initial field of 17 candidates that now has a shot at beating Trump.

“Wisconsin is on the national stage. The entire country is looking to this state. Tuesday night. You know of those 17 candidates, five are now supporting this campaign,” Cruz said.

Besides Walker, Cruz’s former rivals Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Rick Perry and Jeb Bush have backed Cruz’s candidacy.

Cruz also spoke of his agenda to repeal the Affordable Care Act, cut environmental regulations, enact a flat tax and abolish the Internal Revenue Service.

Then, he spoke of the importance of U.S. Supreme Court justice nominations.

“We are one liberal justice away from a radical, five-justice, left-wing majority the likes of which this country has never seen. We’re one justice away from the Supreme Court stripping away the religious liberty of millions of Americans,” he said. “We are one justice away from the Supreme Court effectively erasing the Second Amendment from the Bill of Rights. We are one justice away from the Supreme Court making us subject to the authority of the World Court and the United Nations and international law and giving up U.S. sovereignty.”

Cruz said Trump has supported liberal politicians in the past.
