A Town of Delafield supervisor has defeated three other Republican challengers in the race for a vacancy in the Wisconsin State Assembly.

Cindi Duchow’s primary election victory on Tuesday means she’s all but certain to take the 99th Assembly District seat representing conservative Waukesha County, as no Democrats have filed to run. If she does, it would add to what’s already a considerable Republican majority in that chamber.

The Assembly seat had previously been occupied by Chris Kapenga, who now serves in the state Senate after having won a special election in July.

Duchow, a resident of Pewaukee, has won endorsements from several high-profile Republicans, including former Gov. Tommy Thompson. Her platform focuses on cutting taxes, boosting job creation, and giving more authority to local school districts.

Duchow defeated businessman Dave Westlake of Hartland, limousine chauffeur Spencer Zimmerman of Delafield, and insurance agent Scott Owens of the Town of Genesee in the primary. The general election is Sept. 29.
