Several hundred people gathered in Madison on Sunday to protest the killings of Alton Sterling and Philando Castile by police and the killing of five police officers in Dallas.

The group marched up State Street, around the state Capitol and to the Dane County Public Safety building.

Kiela Doss, of Beloit, planned the protest using social media.

“I made a Facebook post, I was sharing it everywhere I could … and it got bigger than what I expected,” Doss said.

The protesters supported the Black Lives Matter movement, but Doss said she said she didn’t work with any organizations to put the event together. She said she hopes the community can move forward.

“So everybody that believes in peace, everybody that knows that there needs to be justice, everybody that wants this to stop, we have to come together and make peace,” she said.

The rally was peaceful and was escorted by Madison police officers.
