U.S. Rep. Ron Kind is facing a primary challenge from a fellow Democrat for the first time in a decade.
Retired history teacher and peace activist Myron Buchholz of Eau Claire anounced plans to run against Kind for Wisconsin’s 3rd Congressional District seat in the August primary.
Buchholz, who identifies himself as a progressive Democrat, said his main complaint with Kind and reason for his challenge is Kind’s support of the multinational Trans-Pacific Partnership trade deal signed earlier this month.

“One of the things that has caused significant controversy across the district is the Trans-Pacific Partnership being worse than NAFTA, shipping jobs overseas, depressing wages and hurting the poor and the working class,” he said.
Buchholz said he’s in favor of minor changes to U.S. tariff policies in order to keep jobs from going overseas. He wants to see green energy development, campaign finance reform and legalized marijuana.
No Republicans have announced they are planning to run for the seat yet.
Kind, a La Crosse Democrat, is completing his 10th term in Congress.
