Critics of a Kohler Co. proposal to build a golf course on part of a state park are planning a march to show their opposition.

Most of the high-end golf course would be on wooded, company-owned property along Lake Michigan, south of Sheboygan. But part of the development would slice into Kohler-Andrae State Park.

Mary Faydash of Friends of the Black River State Forest said the group is concerned about projected tree loss in Sheboygan County, tying it to the global problem of deforestation.

“The deforestation of the Amazon Rainforest had its start on a particular day,” she said. “And we feel that Kohler’s actions are certainly emblematic of all the issues that relate to climate change.”

Faydash said her group will march to the Kohler Co. headquarters Saturday to deliver a “citizens’ indictment.”

A Kohler spokesman said the firm is aware of the planned protest.
