Even though the latest Marquette University Law School poll shows Gov. Scott Walker leads the pack among Republican presidential candidates, he still trails Democrat Hillary Clinton in his home state: 52 percent of respondents said they would vote for Clinton, while 42 percent said they’d vote for Walker.
According to Charles Franklin, the director of the poll, the 10-point difference is evidence that Wisconsin is still a “purple” state,
“Part of the reason for that is that the Republicans are still making up their minds among 17 other candidates, whereas Hillary Clinton has been leading the field pretty solidly on the Democratic side,” said Franklin.

Franklin cautioned that a lot can change in the 15 months between now and Election Day.
The poll also shows Walker’s approval ratings have dipped 3 points since the last Marquette poll in April. Only one-third of respondents said they approved of his decision to run for president, but Franklin said some may disapprove only because they want Walker to stay on as governor.
