"Wisconsin is the 8th state I've lived in so I can state... with a lot of experience... you have the best public radio in America! I wouldn't know where to begin to express my appreciation - as a loyal listener." Elaine Stogsdill 9XM Leadership Circle Member Fond du Lac, WI "We farm. It's easy to let the world end at your mailbox. Through Wisconsin Public Radio, that doesn't happen. Wisconsin Public Radio helps me keep in touch with the world." Leigh Tuckey 9XM Leadership Circle Member Lancaster, WI "I didn't think I liked poetry until I heard the Jean Feraca program. Now I think I have a good ear for it!" Sally Mackie 9XM Leadership Circle Member Middleton, WI "Whether it's tomatoes or world peace, I enjoy the conversational programming. Being able to 'eavesdrop' on interesting conversation and not feel guilty is wonderful - no other media can provide this." Pat Sebranek 9XM Leadership Circle Member Burlington, WI |
WHAT 9XM MEANS Wisconsin Public Radio began in 1917, thanks to leaders on the University of Wisconsin campus. Professor Earl M. Terry and his physics students transmitted music and voice using handmade vacuum tubes. At that time WPR was known as Radio Station 9XM. 9XM then became WHA-AM, the flagship for what is now the 24 station Wisconsin Public Radio Network. Through the 9XM recognition we honor those individuals who came before us and helped to make WPR the radio network it is today.
