2009 Winners Recital

A sublime Beethoven sonata, a moving spiritual sung by a bass-baritone, and a unique arrangement of Barber’s Adagio for Strings for three people playing one five-octave marimba were just some performances, which set the stage for the Wisconsin Public Radio’s 2009 Neale-Silva Young Artists’ Competition. They performed on the winners’ recital on Sunday, April 26, 2009 at the Wisconsin Union Theater in Madison. The winners were:

  • Voice: Derrell Acon (St. Louis, MO) – Lawrence University-Appleton
  • Alto Saxophone: Phillip Dobernig (Mukwonago)
  • Viola: Elias Goldstein (Bolingbrook, IL) – UW-Madison
  • Piano: Leonard Hayes (Dallas, TX) – Lawrence University-Appleton
  • Clarinet: Ching-Chieh Hsu (Taiwan) – UW-Madison
  • Percussion Ensemble – Lawrence University-Appleton:
    • Felicia Behm (Monument, CO)
    • David Ranscht (La Crosse)
    • Stacey Stoltz (Aurora, IL)
