GROUPS CALL FOR PLEDGE ON CAMPAIGN FINANCE REFORM WPR News - Groups call for pledge on campaign finance reform
Friday June 01, 2012 by Shawn Johnson
A coalition of groups are calling on the candidates for governor to pledge that if elected they'll support a special session campaign finance reform. WISPIRG, the Wisconsin Democracy Campaign and the Coalition of Wisconsin Aging Groups are among those who've asked for the pledge. Among their proposals: they want candidates to support more disclosure of campaign spending and end the ability to raise unlimited funds in recall elections. Bruce Speight of WISPIRG says people have been buried in campaign ads from unknown sources in this election, "But what's even more concerning is that the candidates for governor have been mostly silent on these profound issues infecting our democracy." When asked about the proposals, Democrat Tom Barrett's campaign said Barrett had always supported meaningful campaign finance laws and would do so if elected. Gov. Scott Walker's campaign did not answer the question, saying only that Walker was focused on jobs.
