Just more than half the respondents to a new poll approve of the job Governor Scott Walker is doing. Some of the Governor's policies also come out on top in the latest Wisconsin Public Radio-St. Norbert College survey.

The economy is driving positive approval ratings for both President Barack Obama and Governor Scott Walker.

Wendy Scattergood is a St. Norbert College political scientist and an analyst with the school's survey center.

"So while President Obama has a 53 percent approval rating, Governor Walker has a 52 percent approval rating. So both of them have majorities that approve of the jobs that we are doing. And when asked about the economy, both the state and federal—we asked whether they think it's better now than a year ago..."

Perceptions on the nation's and the state's economies are similar. Scattergood says 41 percent of respondents say the nation's economy is better now than it was one year ago. Similarly, 37 percent say the state's is growing: "So if we look at that over time, we're definitely more optimistic than we had been, say, two years ago."

Policy-wise the survey also shows support for the governor's proposed state income tax cut and for expanding the school voucher program, albeit with some exceptions.

See the results of the poll below. Approval rating numbers are on page five.
