Gilda
submitted by Mark V.
My one in a million dog's name is Gilda. She is a Shelty mix, according to my vet.
What makes her so special is the way she greets me when I come home from work or a business trip. No matter how badly the day might have gone, I cannot help but smile when she greets me at the front door, usually with a toy in her mouth, and wanting to play for just a minute.
A couple of years ago, I was shopping for pet food, and as I parked the car, I noticed a little golden face look me straight in the eyes. Her ears went up, and I could swear she said, "Daddy, take me home!" Five minutes later, she was on my lap, licking my arm. I filled out the adoption papers and went inside to shop, with Gilda on a leash. She wanted to be held and I obliged by picking her up. She wrapped her front legs around my arm and would not let go until we were back at the car. She has been my perfect pet ever since.
As a widower with three adult children – the youngest still in college – Gilda is so much more than a pet. She is FAMILY!
