* Recently heard on At The Edge was music from the record “Analog” by Philip Glass. Glass is best known for his operas, symphonies and his compositions for the Philip Glass ensemble, which began in the late 1960’s. Glass is also credited with evolving a new style of music known as “minimalism”, which Glass calls “music with repetitive structures”. In addition to his recordings, Glass has also written several books and composed music for numerous films.

* Mary has added a new section to her website! The Blue Side Essential List is a compilation of music companies, publications, clubs, shows, events and festivals related to blues music and the list is updated weekly.
* Some upcoming blues shows, events and festivals in the area include Johnny Winter’s performance at the Oneida Bingo and Casino Three Clans Ballroom on July 16 at 8 PM, Waukesha BluesFest on August 10-11, 2007, the 16th Annual Big Bull Falls Blues Fest on August 17-18, 2007 at Fern Island Park in Wausau and the Berghoff and Blues Festival on September 15th in Monroe, WI. * There are several upcoming jazz events and festivals in the area. Labor Day weekend is quickly approaching and Fox Valley Jazz Fest will be kicking off on Saturday, September 1 and will continue on Sunday, September 2nd. The event will take place at Jefferson Park in Menasha and admission is free. For more information, please visit www.foxjazzfest.com. Other upcoming jazz events include the Cheese Capital Jazz Crawl for the Arts on August 10-11, 2007 at the Plymouth Arts Center and Jazz at Five, a free jazz concert series taking place on Wednesday evenings on the 100 block of State Street in Madison. * There are a number of powwows scheduled to take place throughout Wisconsin this summer. A few of these include the 34th Annual Honor the Earth Traditional Powwow which will take place on July 20-22, 2007 at the LCO Powwow grounds in Hayward, WI, the 41st Annual Menominee Nation contest powwow which will take place at the Woodland Bowl in Keshena, WI August 3-5, 2007, and the 33rd Annual St. Croix Wild Rice Fest traditional powwow taking place on August 24-26 at the “Hole in the Wall” Casino in Danbury, WI.
