What 9XM Means
Wisconsin Public Radio began in 1917, thanks to leaders on the University of Wisconsin campus. Professor Earl M. Terry and his physics students transmitted music and voice using handmade vacuum tubes. At that time WPR was known as Radio Station 9XM. 9XM then became WHA-AM, the flagship for what is now the 24 station Wisconsin Public Radio Network. Through the 9XM recognition we honor those individuals who came before us and helped to make WPR the radio network it is today.
If a major gift is not for you, you can still contribute to WPR by making a one-time gift at any level or make a sustaining gift.
