  • Rights Of Fetus Versus Mother In Wisconsin

Alicia Beltran of Wisconsin has filed a federal suit challenging a 1997 Wisconsin law that allowed her to be detained while pregnant after admitting to her doctor that she had been addicted to pain medication. The addiction was kicked before her pregnancy, which was confirmed with urine tests. Wisconsin is one of four states in the country that allows this kind of detention if a woman’s fetus appears to be threatened by the use of drugs or alcohol.
