Ryan’s Rise To Speaker Could Put His District In The Spotlight

Now that Rep. Paul Ryan has become speaker of the House, it may put more of a spotlight on his Wisconsin Congressional District.

Ryan represents the 1st Congressional District, covering many southeastern counties. Democrats recently held a news conference there, questioning Ryan’s record on family leave. Now that Ryan is House speaker, there may be more such events in his district.

Racine County ironworker and former Democratic legislative candidate Randy Bryce said it’s good to have the spotlight back on the district.

“I think there was a big spotlight, too, when he ran for vice president,” he said. “But this time, he’s going to have a lot more responsibilities.”
