Snow Headed Through Wisconsin For The Second Time In A Week

Wisconsin is preparing for its second winter storm in less than a week.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for west central and southern Wisconsin Friday and Saturday, with the rest of the state under a winter storm watch.

Some areas could see 8 to 12 inches of accumulation.

Meteorologist Sean Miller of the National Weather Service in Milwaukee said unlike the slow, steady snowfall last weekend, this storm is expected to intensify.

“We’re looking for snowfall to ramp up during the day on Friday, Friday afternoon into Friday evening, continuing into Saturday before tapering off Saturday evening,” Miller said. “After the snow we’ll look for bitterly cold temperatures and some gusty winds, which are going to be blowing the snow around as well.”

The winds and cold temperatures after the snowfall could make for icy road conditions.

“Our biggest concern, obviously, as we see these high winds coming is black ice,” said Gina Paige of the state’s Bureau of Traffic Operations. “We really want motorists to keep an eye out for that as well, because it’s very hard to see. We just don’t want people hitting that and unfortunately causing an incident.”

The Department of Transportation said residents should stay off the roads whenever possible this weekend, and that drivers should check road conditions through the state’s 511 service and allow extra travel time.
