The director of the Wisconsin Professional Police Association says that the decision not to charge Christopher Manney, the now-fired police officer who killed Dontre Hamilton, is supported by a thorough independent investigation.

Jim Palmer said the incident was carefully examined by the Department of Criminal Investigation and nationally recognized experts on police use of force.

“It’s pretty clear that when you review all that evidence and the citizen testimony, that this was a very traumatic and violent struggle that occurred between these two individuals — and for those reasons, that Officer Manney’s use of force throughout the incident was deemed justified,” said Palmer.
