The state Senate confirmed Jon Litscher as the new leader for the state Department of Corrections Tuesday morning after Gov. Scott Walker put his name forward last month.

Litscher is taking the place of former Secretary Ed Wall. Wall resigned from the position on Feb. 5, as federal authorities took charge of an investigation into allegations of abuse at Wisconsin’s youth prison, Lincoln Hills.

Litscher was confirmed with broad support from lawmakers in both parties Tuesday.

Sen. Lena Taylor, a Milwaukee Democrat, was among a handful of senators who rose to compliment him.

“I appreciate him being candid about the issues that exist in the department and the issues that need to be addressed,” she said.

Litscher previously served as corrections secretary from 1999-2003.
