Tania Seleh – Multi-talented Vocal Sensation

By
Album Cover: A Few Images (Algumas Imagens), Valley Entertainment, 2014

Tania Saleh is a Lebanese singer/songwriter who in the beginning paved her musical path in the Arabic underground musical scene back in 1990. She recently released her third studio album “A Few Images” in collaboration with Norwegian producer Erik Hillestad. Instantly, I was drawn to her compelling, powerfully emotional vocal spirit.

Now, I could easily wax on about this album’s merits. I won’t, though I will say with ease that Saleh is a richly talented vocalist. Her sound speaks to my musical heart if you will and clearly from my end, she’s unafraid of exploring collaborations with others artists while confidently retaining her own musical identity.

Despite the social backdrop of her homeland, it’s quite moving to hear Saleh express her deeply held ideas about love, passionate love invisioned from a woman’s perspective. The album’s underpinning of Arabic musical nuances and instrumentation, give her embrace of samba and bossa nova styles, a sound that is refreshingly approachable.

This CD is going into my personal world music library…mostly because her voice is convincingly original.
