UW-Extension Looks To Begin Offering Business Degrees

The University of Wisconsin-Extension is looking to grant business degrees as part of an effort to accommodate those who don’t go to college full-time after high school.

According to the National Center for Education Statistics, the most popular degree in the country is business administration. However, it’s not one of the degrees offered by the UW Flexible Option, an online school designed for working adults. The program gives diplomas through UW-Milwaukee and UW-Parkside.

“For various reasons, none of those institutions were willing to grant a business degree in Flex format,” said Cathy Sandeen, chancellor of UW Extension.

Sandeen said the Extension wants to fill the gap by granting business degrees, but that’s easier said than done. Extension first needs to amend its mission statement — a process that will begin Thursday at a Board of Regents meeting in Whitewater, and should be finalized by December.
