In Menomonee Falls late Friday afternoon, Gov. Scott Walker repeatedly refused to answer news media questions about his now-halted campaign for president.

Walker was quizzed about reports that the campaign has $1 million in debt, and that his sons were on the campaign payroll. Walker did respond to a question about whether his campaign finance concerns reflect poorly on his ability to run the state.

“If you want to look at my record, look at my record as governor. My record is strong, it’s one of the strongest in the country. Which is why we have another surplus at the end of the fiscal year, it’s why taxes are down on property, it’s why taxes are down on income, it’s why we have a rainy day fund that’s 165 times bigger than we took office,” he said.

Walker said he has been talking to some of his campaign donors, but that he’s focused on being governor. That same afternoon, Walker toured a factory in Menomonee Falls that has been in business for 50 years.
