Walker Tours State Calling For Further Property Tax Reductions

Gov. Scott Walker barnstormed across the state on Wednesday on a “Property Tax Relief Tour” in which he called for further tax reductions in his next state budget.

Walker flew to five different airports armed with charts showing the average property taxes for a typical Wisconsin family over the past eight years. Since he took office, Walker said he and the Legislature have worked hard to cut property taxes on a typical Wisconsin home by $144. He said they’re still not finished.

“We want that trend to continue, because for working families state property taxes are overwhelmingly one of the biggest burdens they have in their own lives and their own businesses to deal with,” said Walker. “We want to make sure we continue to provide property tax relief over the next four years.”

Walker didn’t specify how much he’d cut this time around, nor did he say how the cuts would be paid for in light of a projected $2 billion budget deficit.
