One of three Democrats running for the 7th Congressional District seat held by Republican incumbent U.S. Rep. Sean Duffy said she thinks Washington is out of touch with Wisconsin voters.

Ethel Quisler, of Wausau, is the daughter of a dairy farmer and provides care to people living with disabilities. Quisler said she’s running to make good on a deal.

“There’s a group of friends of my son’s that I was like, ‘You finish high school. You get that high school diploma, that GED(then) OK, I’ll run for Congress,’” she said.

But Quisler said it goes beyond that. She said politicians in Washington can’t relate to the struggles facing Americans. She said she thinks President Barack Obama’s health care law was passed prematurely, and without much thought about its impact on employers.

Quisler said if elected, she would support more manufacturing in the region, better infrastructure and higher wages.

Quisler, Joel Lewis and Phil Salamone — all from Wausau — are vying to oust Duffy. The primary election will be held on Aug. 9.
