As medical costs have climbed, hospitals have increased the workloads of nurses. In California, nursing organizations fought for and achieved mandated nursing ratios. After five, Ben Merens and his guest discuss nurse-to-patient ratios and their effect on patients, nurses, and hospitals. GUEST: Suzanne Gordon is the lead author of "Safety in Numbers: Nurse-To-Patient Ratios and The future Of Health Care." She the Co-Editor of "The Culture and Politics of Health Care Work Series" of Cornell University Press and has been a health care commentator in the U.S. for Public Radio International’s “Marketplace.” She is Visiting Professor at the University of Maryland School of Nursing and Assistant Adjunct Professor at the University of California, San Francisco, School of Nursing.

Once you click on the "Start Download Now" button below, the download dialog window may not appear for several seconds. Do NOT click on the button more than once or your download request may be refused.

When you start the download, several dialog boxes may appear on your screen:

If a "file download" box appears, simply click the "SAVE" button.
If a "Save-As" box appears, locate a folder where you want to save the MP3 program file and click "SAVE".
Some browsers will automatically save the file to a pre-determined location (often to your desktop or Documents folder).
A "Download Progress" box may appear showing the file downloading to your PC. When the download is completed, you may receive a final "Download Complete" indication. You can then CLOSE this dialog box.
Mac Users: iTunes may automatically launch and start playing the file after it's downloaded.
