| 69% of voters believe super PACs should be illegal, according to a new poll out today. But how much do we really know about these political action committees, and are they good or bad for our democracy? Today after four, Ben talks to a supporter of super PACs, who says they help increase voter knowledge of candidates and issues, as well as voter turnout. Then after four-thirty, Ben talks with a guest who says super PACs are "kryptonite for democracy in the United States" and are undermining political equality.
Guests:
- Brad Smith, chairman and co-founder of the Center for Competitive Politics, former chairman of the Federal Election Commission
- Adam Lioz (LEE-ahz), lawyer and policy advocate at the Demos Democracy Program, co-author of the report, "Auctioning Democracy: The Rise of Super PACs & the 2012 Election" |
