Wisconsin Attorney General Issues Opinion Curbing DNR Regulation Of High Capacity Wells
An opinion issued yesterday by Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel says the Department of Natural Resources (DNR) doesn’t have the authority to consider the overall environmental impact of high impact wells on an area when granting or denying permits to build high-capacity wells. The opinion counters a 2011 state Supreme Court ruling and has been criticized by environmental groups, while being seen as a win for agriculture and business industries. Our guest tells us more about how the decision is being received and what it means for future court decisions on high-capacity wells.
