Wisconsin’s average ACT score for most recent high school graduates ranks second in the nation, although scores in the state are likely to go down in the future.
The average ACT score in Wisconsin was 22.2 out of 36 points for the nearly 50,000 graduates in the class of 2015. The state tied for second place with Iowa, trailing Minnesota by just 0.5 points.
The rankings compare Wisconsin to the 29 other states where more than 50 percent of the students take the assessment.

ACT scores won’t likely be as high for the class of 2016. John Johnson, spokesman for the state Department of Public Instruction, said that’s because all high school juniors were required to take the exam this past March.
“All the states that have gone to having 100 percent of juniors taking the ACT have shown scores decline,” he said. “We expect to see that, but we think it’s for a very good purpose.”
Johnson said the goal of having all juniors take the ACT is to get more students to consider post-secondary education.
