Wisconsin Ranks 33rd In Latest National Job Rankings

Wisconsin ranked 33rd among all states in private sector job growth under the latest “gold standard” job numbers released Wednesday by the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The numbers from the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages, referred to as the QCEW, show Wisconsin added 37,166 private sector jobs from March of 2015 to March of 2016 for a growth rate of nearly 1.6 percent. Among 10 Midwest states, only Michigan, Indiana and Ohio added private sector jobs faster.

As its name suggests, the QCEW is effectively a census of employers. Because it’s such a thorough measure, it takes months to produce.

Wisconsin typically ranks somewhere in the 30s in private sector job growth when compared to other states under the QCEW. It ranked 36th the last time these numbers were released.
