SEGMENT #1

#1 Hilton Head, SC          Fingers are numb and white
Z informs the caller that she's suffering from Raynaud's Phenomena. It's a constriction of the arteries in the fingers. it can cause the fingers to turn white; can make them feel cold and/or tingly. Z says it can be caused by certain blood pressure drugs such as beta blockers, but for the most part it's unknown wat directly causes it.It is generally triggered by any significant differential in temperature. Z suggests wearing gloves even indoors to help with it.

#2 Madison, WI               Boyfriend's Vertigo
Z recommends a full MRI workup if this has been going on for so long. It might be a tumor in the brain that's causing dizziness. He also mentions a nystagmus test that can alert a neurosurgeon if the poblem is in the brain or ear canal. Z also suggests visiting a PT or OT to receive a neck exercise, Epley's Maneuver, which can help alleviate the vertigo symptoms. See our list of resources for more.

Topic                                Spouses absorb each other's poor habits
Z and T discuss a study that looked over 120 couples (straight and gay) and found that if one is a couch potato and one is healthy the negative health habits will generally overcome, not the opposite.

#3 Cranberry, NJ            Jaw Issues
Z says that an infected gland can cause bad breath. He recommends Peridex Rx mouth wash to help mask it. He recommends a second opinion on how to remove the calcium deposit in the gland instead of intensive surgery.

E-mail                              Smoking Stress (Disagreeing with the Doc)
T reads an e-mail from a listener named Jeff who feels Z gave incomplete advice when he said people smoke to make the addiction of nicotine go away. Jeff feels that some folks smoke to get revved up. Z agrees to disagree.

#4 Huntsville, AL    Question about Gall Bladder Surgery
Caller wonders if vitamin supplements are necessary. Z says that he takes a multivitamin that says “Multivitamin with minerals USP” every day, so he recommends LeSean do so as well. Z also recommends adding 1,000-2,000 extra mg of vitamin D to the multivitamin. Z thinks that even if you eat healthy, you’re probably not getting all the vitamins you need.

E-mail                      Frozen Spinach (Listener Tip) 
T reads an e-mail from Z's former Ball Room Dance teacher, Ellen. She has a tip for frozen spinach. Take te spinach and place it between two plates and then walk over to the sink and squeeze them with the rims down to drain the spinach. Z agrees, but quips that you should dance over to the sink!

SEGMENT #3

TOPIC:                       HPV Rising Cancer Risk
Z and T discuss transmissible cancers. Z explains cervical cancer has been added to the list. Cervical cancer is caused by HPV (Human Papillomavirus) and HPV is transmissible through sex. HPV 16 is now causing throat cancer due to oral sex. Z says it's important to know that because folks feel that oral sex is safer than sex. Z says it's important to think of this as similar to STDs and get the word out and he strongly recommends the HPV vaccine.

#5 Salt Lake City      Constant Fatigue
Z says to continue with the Steroid nasal spray and to combine it with an Ipratroprium (Atrovent) spray at maximum dose. He recommends 25-50 mg of Benadryl at bedtime. He recommends Zyrtec or Allegra during the day. On top of all of this, Z suggests 300mg of Zantac twice aday. He then says to check the ouse for mold or other allergies. Basically, the full court press.

Mythbuster:               MSG Myth
T reads a listener myth from Grandon in W. Lafayette, IN about MSG. Grandon wants to know if MSG is linked to any major illnesses or if the rumor mill is all hooey. Z says it's a myth that MSG is linked to serious diseases, but offers that it can cause discomfort in some and that they should avoid it!

#6 Duluth, MN           Daughter's Ear Infections
Z says to continue QVAR (a nasal spray) and to sweeten the deal for the child with a treat, because it's important to maintain that regiment.

E-mail                        Flight or Fright
T reads an e-mail from Deputy Jan in Kewaskum, WI who is fed up with Z's constant bumbling of the phrase: "Fight or Flight." Z says "Flight or fright" which Jan argues is the SAME response! Z is reluctant to see her point.
