PBS Wisconsin and WPR will broadcast the annual State of the Tribes address statewide on March 18.
Thomas Fowler, chairman of the tribal council of the St. Croix Chippewa Indians of Wisconsin will welcome members of Wisconsin’s 11 federally recognized tribes and deliver this year’s address from the State Capitol in Madison.
The State of the Tribes Address began in 2005. For the people of Wisconsin, constitutional officers, members of the Wisconsin Supreme Court and legislature, it offers an annual opportunity to hear the issues facing Native Nations and celebrate common values. Each year the Great Lakes Inter-Tribal Council selects a governing member to deliver the annual address. PBS Wisconsin’s and WPR’s coverage reflects our commitment to providing many perspectives on life in Wisconsin, through our broadcast, digital and community work.
PBS Wisconsin will broadcast the speech live at 11 a.m. on the Wisconsin Channel and at pbswisconsin.org. WPR News and wpr.org will broadcast the address at 7 p.m. The address will then be available on demand at each website.
