The Hotel Mead in downtown Wisconsin Rapids will be sold at the sheriff’s auction after its owner WR Hotel Properties failed to make mortgage payments and property tax payments. The company has also not yet paid its third quarter city room tax, which was due October 31st. The historic hotel will be acquired by a subsidiary of WoodTrust Bank, the lender and plaintiff in a ruling issued Tuesday in Wood County Circuit Court.The hotel is a major part of the Wisconsin Rapids economy, according to Mayor Mary Jo Carson.
