The Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation (WFBF) says it will cost less than $6 to feed the average Wisconsin July 4 picnicker this year.
Wisconsin Farm Bureau Federation members checked the cost of 13 food items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, baked beans, and corn chips. They found that the expense of feeding 10 people at a picnic came out to about $5.60 for each person – 13 cents cheaper than the national average.
But, some food prices are a few cents higher than usual for this time of year. Spokesman Casey Langan says meat prices are up because of last year’s drought.

“The national cattle herd is at record low, numbers we haven’t seen since the 1950s,” says Langan. “As a result, food prices, especially meat prices, have gone up.”
WFBF’s Fourth of July Market Basket survey was conducted in 28 communities.
