Harbor House is hosting an Angels and Demons masquerade ball this weekend at the Elk’s Lodge in Superior. They’re raising money to keep their shelters up and running.
Harbor House Crisis Shelters is a faith-based organization that helps single women and families who are homeless get back on their feet.
The Rev. Barb Certa-Werner, executive director of Harbor House, said they chose an angels and demons theme for the ball to highlight some of the issues facing people they serve.

“There are angels in our lives basically people who are our helpers, encouragers, supporters. Then, there are demons in our lives that we face such as poverty, not being able to keep a job, or alcohol, drug use, all of those kinds of things that every human being faces,” she said. “How do we overcome them? It’s really because of the angels in our lives.”
Certa-Werner said she is hoping the ball will raise several thousand dollars to help with overhead costs.
“It would just really help us be able to pay for things that other foundations don’t want to pay for, like operations. Nobody wants to pay for our utilities or our phone bill — the internet,” she said. “Everyone would like to make sure that money is used for case management, but we can’t have case management if we don’t have the lights on and the phone and internet.”
The Angels and Demons masquerade ball will take place this Saturday at the Elk’s Lodge in Superior.
The masquerade ball will feature two live bands and appetizers. The event begins at 5:30 p.m. Information about tickets is available online on the Superior Chamber of Commerce website.
