Hiring Forecast Predicts Some Wisconsin Job Growth

By

A new hiring forecast for Wisconsin predicts slightly positive numbers for the upcoming three months, but a weaker picture than during the current quarter.

The latest hiring forecast from Milwaukee-based Manpower Group says 15 percent of Wisconsin employers interviewed plan to add workers during the next three months. Ten percent forecast layoffs, while nearly three-quarters anticipate no changes in staffing. Manpower Vice-President Melanie Holmes says the numbers are a bit below two other quarters, “Weaker than now, and a year ago.”

Holmes says many Wisconsin industrial sectors plan to add jobs, but cuts are expected in construction, durable goods manufacturing and the leisure and hospitality industry. Some of those businesses traditionally lay people off during the middle of winter. Holmes encourages people to keep looking for work, as she says there are some jobs available.
