Bus drivers and mechanics in Milwaukee County are expected to end their three-day walkout Saturday morning.

If they do go back to work, Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele said he hopes leaders of the Amalgamated Transit Union come back to the bargaining table to agree on a new contract.

Abele said he’d also like to team up with the union to get back some transit dollars the state cut four years ago.

“I spend a lot of time in Madison trying to get the legislators to restore the transit funding that they cut in the past. And if ATU wants to come with me on those trips to Madison, I’ll drive,” Abele said.

Abele said it looks like this year’s state budget would not cut transit aid. The Milwaukee bus drivers and mechanics planned a rally late Friday afternoon outside the county executive’s home.
