Republican U.S. Senate candidate Kevin Nicholson is celebrating the endorsement of a pro-Donald Trump super PAC with ties to Steve Bannon, the president’s outspoken former advisor.
Nicholson said Tuesday on Twitter he was “humbled” by the endorsement.
“Excited to receive an endorsement from the Great America PAC and Steve Bannon,” Nicholson tweeted. “Humbled by this huge endorsement.”

The endorsement, which was first reported by McClatchy News Service, would be Nicholson’s third from a conservative political group. He already has the backing of Solutions for Wisconsin, a super PAC formed by Illinois businessman Richard Uihlein specifically to support Nicholson. Club for Growth is also backing Nicholson.
Nicholson is running against state Sen. Leah Vukmir, R-Brookfield, who’s supported by Beloit billionaire Diane Hendricks.
According to McClatchy, Nicholson and Vukmir both spoke to Bannon, who made a name for himself at Breitbart by attacking mainstream Republicans. McClatchy reported that Nicholson would not support Republican Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell as leader.
Democrats blasted the endorsement, noting the Great America PAC had also received funding from Uihlein in addition to the $3.5 million he previously pledged to help elect Nicholson.
“All this means is that Kevin Nicholson has successfully marketed himself as an out-of-state special interest puppet,” said Democratic Party of Wisconsin spokesman Brad Bainum.
The winner of the Republican primary will face Democratic U.S. Sen. Tammy Baldwin next year.
