Superior Salvation Army Red Kettle Campaign Underway

Salvation Army Seeking Volunteers To Gather Donations

By

The Superior Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign is underway. The campaign helps raise money to provide services to people in need.

Jasen Elcombe, Superior Salvation Army Corps officer, said last year they collected around $62,000 from the red kettles. He said their goal this year is to raise around $65,000. Elcombe said the money collected during the campaign helps them fund services all year.

“We have services that provide rental assistance, foods for people’s tables, gas assistance, transportation assistance, utility assistance — all these different programs,” he said.

Elcombe said for every dollar that is made at the Salvation Army thrift stores or the red kettles, 83 cents goes back into the community. He said right now the Salvation Army is providing families with food baskets. Elcombe said they are also working with the Superior Fire Department on a Christmas toys program.

“The Superior Fire Department has been doing this for years, and, at some point, they teamed up with the Salvation Army,” he said. “So we handle all the sign-ups for people to sign up to get toys for their kids at Christmas, and then the distribution is handled at the Superior Fire Department.”

Elcombe said red kettles are at both Super One locations in Superior. After Thanksgiving, they will also be available at Walmart, Younkers, and Walgreens.
