Gov. Scott Walker plans to donate to charity money his campaign received from the leader of a white supremacist group cited by the Charleston church murder suspect.

Between 2011 and 2014, Walker received seven donations from Earl Holt, totalling $3,500. Holt lists himself as the president of the Council of Conservative Citizens, a group that writes about what it describes as “seemingly endless incidents involving black-on-white murder.” Holt’s writings were referenced on a web page registered to Dylann Roof, the suspect in the killings of nine African-Americans in Charleston, South Carolina.

A spokeswoman for Walker said that the governor will return the money to charity.

Holt also donated to other Republican presidential hopefuls, including Sens. Ted Cruz and Rand Paul and former Sen. Rick Santorum. The Guardian reported Sunday those candidates will also either return the money or give it to charity.
