The International Coastal Cleanup will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16, and the city of Ashland is taking part. This will be the city’s 2nd annual beach cleanup.
For 31 years, the Ocean Conservancy has done an international cleanup of the world’s beaches. The initiative has also spread to the Great Lakes. Sara Hudson, director of Ashland Parks and Recreation, said they’re cleaning up the beach for the fall.
“And to also be aware of what goes into our lakes does end up coming onto our shores. Sometimes it’s pretty amazing what you see washed up on the shores of beaches and on the land,” she said.
