It’s not widely known, but thousands of Native Americans fought alongside Union or Confederate soldiers during the Civil War — including at least 500 from Wisconsin who fought for the North.Their fellow soldiers commended the Indians on their marksmanship and courage, and they fought in some of the war’s biggest battles.Brian Bull has this report, as part of series marking the 150th anniversary of the Civil War.
