The Medical College of Wisconsin is welcoming its first class of students to its Green Bay-area campus.
MCW teamed up with St. Norbert College in De Pere to establish its first campus outside of Milwaukee. Matthew Hunsaker, dean of the Green Bay campus, said it’s the first new medical school campus to open in Wisconsin in more than 100 years.
“This is the first campus since the Wright Brothers went to Kitty Hawk,” he said.

Thursday, the school’s first group of future doctors were presented with their white coats. Of the 26 students in the class, 23 are from Wisconsin. Hunsaker said he’s optimistic many will stick around.
“The data for Wisconsin is that about 80 percent of those students will choose Wisconsin to practice in if they’ve done both medical school and residency in the state,” Hunsaker said.
He said MCW plans to open another campus in central Wisconsin next year.
