The University of Wisconsin Board of Regents has named Cathy Sandeen as the new chancellor of UW Colleges and the UW-Extension.
Sandeen will lead UW’s statewide network of 13 colleges, as well as the UW Extension, which has offices in each of Wisconsin’s 72 counties and includes Wisconsin Public Radio and Television.
Sandeen said she’s “delighted” to be named the new chancellor and that she’s anxious to meet staff and community members around the state.

“My first priority is getting out there and doing what you might call a listening tour,” she said. “Listening to what people have to say, what they like about the institutions, what they might change, what are their aspirations — and that will be my first priority.”
Sandeen is currently the vice president for education attainment at the American Council on Education in Washington, D.C. She was formerly dean of continuing education at University of California-Los Angeles Extension.
Sandeen succeeds Ray Cross, who was named president of UW System in February. Cross had led UW Colleges and UW-Extension since 2011.
Sandeen will start on Dec. 15.
