Fall semester enrollment in the UW System was similar to 2013’s numbers.
So far 179,017 students have enrolled this year at UW System campuses, 0.5 percent fewer than the enrollment total from last year. Fewer freshman are coming in, partly because the number of high school graduates is declining.
“We feel strongly that UW institutions are being more creative and working harder than ever to retain students,” said james Villa, vice president for university relations.

Some campuses saw substantial declines: UW-Green Bay saw enrollment decline 7.5 percent from last year, while UW-Stevens Point decreased 3 percent. Villa, however, said more students will come during interim sessions and other programs with late start dates that aren’t counted in preliminary tallies.
